Trapani, Erice, Segesta, Selinunte: a rich and important cultural context

In Trapani and its area, modern and classical music and theatre festivals

Trapani is an ideal destination for a study holiday in Italy also in terms of cultural supply. The Luglio Musicale Trapanese is an important Italian opera festival: its plays are staged outdoors at Trapani's city park Villa Margherita. Along with the Greek theatre in Siracusa, the Teatro Antico di Segesta is the most important place in Sicily for ancient drama (especially Greek tragedies and Roman comedies), but also modern plays are performed as well as ballets, concerts and poem recitals. Some plays are also performed in the Selinunte archaeological area.

Every year in Gibellina, about 45 minutes from Trapani, the Orestiadi take place, an international cultural festival featuring theatre plays, concerts and many other events.

The majority of these events take place during Scuola Virgilio's Italian intensive summer courses, between May and October.

Dicono di noi...

I have taken courses here every summer since 2008, and I can strongly recommend it for the combination of good teaching and a friendly informal atmosphere. Trapani is an absorbing city in itself - rewarding exploration year after year with the discovery of new things, while there are many other places in western Sicily close enough to explore during afternoons and weekends. And there are beaches - within walking distance in Trapani, and further afield - and ferries to the Egadi islands.
