Bildungsurlaub (litt. education leave) in Germany is a law enabling all employees of both private and public entities (both full-time and part-time) to request one extra week off a year (or two consecutive weeks every other year) to participate in refresher courses thereby continuing professional training activities. These courses can be in Germany or abroad, like our own Italian language courses by the sea in Sicily.
Our super-intensive course approved for Bildungsurlaub in many German Bundesländer (federal states) is the Standard Plus course (20 hours of 60 minutes a week) plus 3 hours of cultural activities: 1h30 guided tour of the city in Italian, 1h30 Italian conversation session guided by the school’s teachers. The total 23 hours (60 minutes) slightly exceeds the required 30 lessons of 45 minutes (22h30’).
For Niedersachsen and Hessen, to meet the requirements of the ministries another 7 hours are added, which can also include self study or supervised homework, film discussion, reading newspapers, language laboratory under supervision of a teacher.
